Medical Image Analysis Lab (MIAL)

Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia
What the facility does

Research on computational algorithms for the analysis of biomedical images and their applications in biomedicine

Areas of expertise

Medical imaging is revolutionizing medicine, as it allows scientists, clinicians, and researchers to peer inside the living body. Our lab develops automated and interactive computational methods and mathematical models for extracting useful information from these images. Our research is especially critical, giving the continuously increasing number, resolution, and complexity of biomedical images collected at multiple scales using different modalities for numerous medical applications. Our lab’s techniques are needed to track, diagnose and treat pathologies, as well as to build models of normal anatomy and function. Our application areas include: neurology, cardiology, dermatology, surgery, radiology, urology, musculoskeletal, pediatrics, radiation therapy, and linguistics.
