Biorepository of clinically annotated human perinatal specimens for research
The goal of our BioBank is to provide accessible, affordable and equitable access to clinically annotated human perinatal specimens, to promote translational research. We specialize in the procurement, processing, and archiving of fresh, frozen and fixed specimens that include human placenta, umbilical cord blood, and other pregnancy-related specimens. Our program’s specimen archive contains over 10,000 samples from all weeks of gestation including healthy and pathological pregnancies. Specimens are used in research areas such as pregnancy complications, organ development, regenerative medicine and stem cells.
The BioBank was established in 2006. It is a program of the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and the Mount Sinai Hospital/University Health Network Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Our service facilitates access to clinically annotated human perinatal specimens for research in accord with research ethics board approval. Human placenta, umbilical cord blood, and other pregnancy-related specimens donated by patients following informed consent are available as fresh, frozen or fixed specimens. Our program’s open and accessible archive contains over 10,000 samples from all weeks of gestation including healthy and pathological pregnancies.
