Research in the areas of muscle function, functional capabilities and mobility
The research platform offers a multidimensional process aiming to increase understanding of mechanisms that contribute to the loss of muscular strength, mobility and autonomy during ageing. The research platform team has developed a high level of expertise in the study of muscle function, using cutting-edge techniques to measure mobility, body composition, and muscle strength and quality. The proposed program includes inter-sector projects that generate results in terms of both fundamental and applied research. By developing non-pharmacological action programs for seniors (exercise and nutrition), we create projects that can have a direct impact on the population. More specifically, the identification of mechanisms and risk factors behind loss of muscle function with age, as well as actions and environments with a positive impact on the maintaining of functional capabilities, helps maintain autonomy during ageing. Thanks to cooperation with players in various sectors (community, private, public health, university), this new platform will enable the deployment of essential, innovative research for preventing physical incapacities and, ultimately, increase the length of time that people are in good health and help them remain self-sufficient members of their community.
