Research on the impact of the digestive system (stomach, small intestine and large intestine) on bioactive compounds.
TIM-1 is the latest, most sophisticated in vitro model ever created. It can be used in combination with bioreactors. TIM-1 simulates digestion conditions in the stomach and small intestine, and the bioreactors simulate the physiological conditions of the large intestine. We can check whether dietary fibre is digested or bioaccessible, evaluate the loss of viability of probiotics during storage, validate the effect of a bioactive molecule on intestinal microflora, and the list goes on. With its high-tech equipment, INAF’s in vitro digestion platform can answer these questions and document the efficiency of different products, with rigorous scientific data. Turnkey contractual agreements are developed to meet our partners’ specific needs.
Digestion and bioaccessibility of dietary fibre, availability and bioaccessibility of nutrients, digestibility of proteins and protein by-products, biomolecule stability and activity, determination of strains with high probiotic potential, probiotic survival rate, bioaccessibility, consumption and degradation of prebiotics, encapsulated molecule release profile, harmlessness of new molecules, effects of bacteria and compounds on pathogen strains, effects of antibacterial molecules on colonic microflora.
