Areas of expertise

The Applied Law Enforcement and Training (ALERT) Laboratory is a cutting-edge research facility, dedicated to improving law enforcement practices through the implementation of psychological science. Directed by Dr. Joseph Eastwood, the laboratory is comprised of a dedicated team of industry professionals and graduate students.

The lab is primarily focused on the utilization and improvement of investigative interviewing. Research within the ALERT Lab aims to assess the effectiveness of various interviewing strategies and develop new procedures that increase the successfulness of the process. The facility also researches methods to increase the comprehensibility of interrogation rights, as well as various aspects of the alibi assessment process, including assessing the ability of innocent subjects to generate believable alibis.

As its core mission, the ALERT Lab strives to revolutionize law enforcement procedures through the application of cutting-edge psychological insights.
